How does it feel to be the chairman of a recognized charity such as the Children of the City which is situated in Brooklyn, New York? Rocco Basile knows, and he completely cherishes every moment he spends at work. He is associated with Children of the City for a long time, and though he now manages a thriving enterprise called as Basile Builders, Rocco takes enjoyment in giving assistance.
In Rocco Basile‘s standpoint, the insufficiency of education is the primary cause of the down sides in the nation, and he hold strong to the notion that if the youth are educated, this will reduce crime rates, violence and poverty. That is what Children of the City has been doing for thirty years. Children of the City has been servicing the underprivileged children in Sunset Park, Brooklyn since 1981, and the organization started as a children’s prevention outreach in the early years.
The prominent charity recently held its Annual Benefit Gala on July 20, 2011, as always at The Lighthouse Chelsea Piers in New York City. The gala rejoiced the 30th anniversary of the charity and is a once a year fundraising event which a number of celebrities attend. Celebrities also celebrated alongside with the founder, Joyce Mattera (located on the center of the photo), with 30 years of protecting children who are at the top risk.
In an effort to modify the culture of poverty, Children of the City functions to connect those in need of resources that will address their existing crises. People find help for financial and career advice, social and life skills coaching, legal guardianship, and much more.
Mattera said, “Since 1981 our goal has never switched: to reach at-risk inner-city youth as well as their families. I caught a glimpse at these disadvantaged children 30 years back, and I knew that I couldn’t simply disregard them. Over the years, so many celebrities have joined in helping rescue our most susceptible children.”
The organization’s services consist of mentorship, counseling, educational service. Just a few of its well-known local programs involve: Strong Minds and Strong Homes, which is a volunteer-based outreach;Create Success is an after school and summer course emphasizing supporting each student’s academic success via tutoring and daily aid with homework. Another program is recognized as College Bound, with broadened assistance to high school juniors and seniors with dreams to go to college.FutureSafe is a collaborative monthly event attended by about 500 children meant to deter children from drug abuse, delinquency, gang involvement and teen pregnancy. Heal New York addresses critical ordeals and current mental health and social concerns.
Each and every month, over a thousand children are visited in addition to services that are provided to hundreds more every week. Referrals generate a relationship within the families to the Children of the City’s advocate agencies, with the aim of putting an end to the cycle of poverty and abuse.
